In Mozambique, 1.1 million children have lost their parents. Four in ten suffer from severe malnutrition, and 74% live in extreme poverty (surviving on less than $0.84 per day). Without parental care, many struggle to access food, education, healthcare, and safe shelter.

In most cases, elderly widows attempt to care for these children, despite barely being able to meet their own basic needs. Many live in unsafe, makeshift shelters that leak when it rains and provide little protection from insects, snakes, or thieves.
